Obituary

Ernest Henry Calloway was born January 1, 1948 and sadly passed away November 29, 2023. Born and raised in Orlando, Florida Ernest graduated from Jones High School and attended Texas Southern University where he was drafted into the NFL in 1969. He was the first person ever to be drafted from Orlando and was acknowledged as The most Valuable Player for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1971. He also played for the Florida Blazers and had a short stint with another team. Ernest not only excelled in athletics but in other areas as well. He was a Bible scholar and an avid chess player. Throughout his life he held numerous jobs involving contracting. Ernest leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters Sabrina D. Calloway Johnson of St. Louis Missouri, Danielle S. Kinsey of Tallahassee, Florida, a son Dontelle S. Kinsey of Savannah, Georgia three brothers Mose Calloway (Claudia) Annapolis, Maryland Cornell Bennett and David Bennett both of Orlando, Florida. A devoted niece and nephew Keabra Gillens and Korwin Gillens Sr. Both of Orlando, Florida,12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A life long family friend Donald Walker. Special friend Latoya Brown of Orlando, Florida. And a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Bessie Bennett, father John Bennett, sister Annie Ruth Bennett Hemingway and a brother Willie Oscar Calloway.
Ernie will be deeply missed and loved dearly. Fly Eagles Fly!!
