In Loving Memory of Gloria Dusnik Dillon
September 4, 1943 – July 22, 2026
Gloria Dusnik Dillon, 82, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at a
local hospital. Her family remains deeply grateful for the gift of a final rally in her last days, during which they
were blessed to experience the true Gloria once more—clear-minded, joyful, witty, and full of faith. Though
her family could not be at her side in person during those final hours, they were able to speak with her by
phone, and she recited two of her most cherished prayers, the Our Father and the Hail Mary, before
entering eternal rest.
Born to Chester and Lilian Dusnik, Gloria was raised in a loving but strict Catholic household where faith,
family, and compassion were central to daily life. As a young girl, Gloria and her brothers, Chester "Chet" Jr.
and James, would often play "church," taking turns leading prayers and reenacting the Mass. Those
childhood moments reflected the importance of faith in their home and foreshadowed the steadfast devotion
that remained with Gloria throughout her life. Although her younger brothers, Michael and Daniel, were born
several years later, Gloria remained a devoted sister who cherished her bond with them throughout her life.
A lifelong Catholic, Gloria's faith was the cornerstone of her life and a constant source of strength, comfort,
and hope. She lived her beliefs through kindness, forgiveness, and service to others.
Gloria dedicated her professional life to nursing, serving as a registered nurse in a variety of healthcare
settings as her family moved throughout the Midwest and the South. Her career included work in open-heart
surgery centers, where her skill, compassion, and calming presence touched countless patients, families,
and colleagues. Nursing was more than a profession—it was a calling that reflected her servant's heart and
her genuine desire to care for others.
Gloria was married to James Mathew Dillon, and together they welcomed two children, Amy Lynne Dillon
and Geoffrey James Dillon. Although they were divorced at the time of her passing, they shared many years
raising their family. Gloria's greatest joy was being a mother. She loved Amy and Geoffrey unconditionally,
offering a lifetime of encouragement, wisdom, and steadfast support.
She was also a proud and devoted grandmother. Gloria found immense happiness in her grandson, Logan
Dillon. Fishing was a passion that connected three generations of their family—one Gloria first learned from
her father, Chester, and later endures with Logan.
Outside of work, Gloria embraced life with enthusiasm, gratitude, and a joyful spirit. She loved music,
spending time at the beach, and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Whether enjoying the sunshine at Singer Island, Key Largo, Daytona Beach, Flagler Beach, Grand Haven,
or Mackinac Island, she found peace in the beauty of the water and the outdoors.
An exceptional home cook, Gloria delighted family and friends with traditional Polish favorites such as
pierogies, homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, and her delicious Great Lakes perch dinners. She believed
that some of life's greatest moments were shared around the dinner table, where family, laughter, and love
were always abundant.
Gloria had a lifelong affection for animals. She adored her beloved poodle, Pepper, her Yorkie, Wiggles,
and several cherished cats over the years, including her beloved Ragdolls. Her pets were treasured
members of the family and brought her endless companionship and happiness.
She also had a special fondness for convertibles. From her early days during nursing school, she proudly
drove a Corvair convertible, and throughout her life she enjoyed Jaguars and Mustangs, delighting in every
opportunity to put the top down and enjoy the open road.
Perhaps one of Gloria's greatest gifts was that she never met a stranger. With a warm smile, infectious
laugh, and genuine interest in others, she could strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether visiting a
local shop or dining at a favorite restaurant, it wasn't unusual for her to leave knowing the owner by name
and having made a new friend. Her spirited sense of humor and joyful personality made everyone feel
welcome and loved.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Chester and Lilian Dusnik, and by her brothers,
Chester "Chet" Dusnik Jr. and James Dusnik.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Lynne Dillon; her son, Geoffrey James Dillon, his wife, Meredith
Dillon, and their son, Logan Dillon; her brothers, Michael Dusnik and Daniel Dusnik; along with many
nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her
compassion and generosity.
Gloria's favorite color was green, and her favorite number was 13—small reflections of the unique
personality that those closest to her will always remember. She will be remembered as a devoted mother
and grandmother, a loving sister, a compassionate nurse, a faithful Catholic, an extraordinary cook, an
animal lover, an avid fisherman, a beach enthusiast, and a loyal friend.
Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her faith, her kindness, her laughter, and her
unwavering love for family. Though she will be deeply missed, those who knew Gloria find comfort in
knowing she has been welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, reunited with those who went before
her.
