Obituary

Hector Sabino Calderon, age 80, of St. Cloud, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on June 16, 1945, in Río Grande, Puerto Rico, Hector was part of a generation shaped by transition and resilience. In 1954, at the age of 9, he moved with his family to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, during the wave of Puerto Rican migration that transformed New York City and left lasting cultural roots. Hector came of age, carrying with him the values of loyalty, humility, and quiet strength.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. Known for his kindness, generosity, and forgiving nature, Hector served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, as a combat medic during a volatile period in American history. After his time in service, he worked as a phlebotomist and lab technician at a methadone clinic during the 1970's in New York City before joining the United States Postal Service. Hector served as a letter carrier for roughly 26 years before retiring.

Outside of work, Hector enjoyed tending to his lawn and going on family vacations in the summer. More than anything, he cherished time with his family and friends. His patience, steady presence, and unwavering acceptance left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Olivia Calderon and Isabella Stryker; eight grandchildren: Brittanie, Quentin, Christina, Anthony, Ashlie, Warren, Shawn, and Rose; and one great-granddaughter, Cassidy. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra and Sonia. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elia Calderon, and his father, Sabino Calderon.

A memorial dinner will be held at a later date, to be determined.

Hector will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
