In Loving Memory of Leroy Lewis Sunrise: January 31, 1947 Sunset: December 21, 2023.
Papa Leroy Lewis, born in Bull Bay, St. Thomas, Jamaica, was the eldest of six children. Known by the affectionate nickname Lingwal, he grew up as a spirited trouble-starter, engaging in playful fights in the district with his younger brother Winston.
Despite health challenges and missing school, Leroy embraced life fully. He worked hard, played harder, and cherished the lively gatherings filled with reggae music, loud conversations, and domino games.
Leroy's love for family, friends, and good food was evident throughout his life. Leroy's storytelling, humor, and passion for dancing endeared him to all.
In 1970's, Leroy's life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Beverly, in May Pen, Jamaica. Their bond led to the birth of their son, Carlos in 1971. With dreams of a better life, Leroy migrated to Canada, working tirelessly to reunite his family. In 1973, his daughter Nicole was born, and the family embraced the challenges of building a new life in Toronto.
Over the years, Leroy's journey took him to various places, including Edmonton, New York, and Philadelphia. In 1996, he married Rema, and they built a life together, dreaming of settling in Orlando, FL. Sadly, Rema passed away in 2003.
Leroy was a compassionate soul, he welcomed Teniesha and their daughter Aaliyah into his life later. Despite battling illnesses, Leroy refused to give up, displaying remarkable resilience.
Leroy moved to Florida with his daughter Nicole, fulfilling his dream of living in the South. Despite his declining health, he found joy in walks, gym outings, and relishing the Florida lifestyle.
As Leroy's health deteriorated in 2023, his resilience remained unyielding. Surrounded by family and friends, he found solace in conversations with loved ones.
Papa's legacy of kindness and unwavering love will live on through the cherished memories of those fortunate enough to know him.
Leroy is survived by his children: Carlos (Mary), Nicole (Steve), Alisha, and Aaliyah. Grandchildren: Chanel, Chanice, Kristyan, and Sydni. Great-grandchildren Shiloh and Elliana.
Leroy leaves his Brothers Winston, Norman, and Sonny (passed), sisters Marva and Barbara (Queenie), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Leroy is remembered by his best friends Trenton and Dog and special friends/family Natalie and Lance, Faith, Mama Dot, Rachel, and Pat.
"We love our dad; without him, we would not be here.
God gave us the gift of Papa's life, and we will cherish each memory and allow Papa to continue to live on through each one of us.
In honoring Leroy's memory, let us cherish each moment and allow his legacy to live on in our hearts".
