Norris Franklin Gilliss, Sr., (82), of Salisbury, MD passed away September 27th, 2023,
peacefully at Hunters Creek Nursing Center in Orlando, Florida.
Norris, fondly known as "Frank" and "Pops", was born to the late Norris V Gilliss and Mary
Anne Gilliss. Frank graduated from Wicomico Senior High Class of 1959 in Salisbury. Frank
worked at the Daily Times newspaper in Salisbury for 48 years before retiring in 2007. Frank
was an avid fisherman for most of his life and was a very proud resident of the Eastern Shore.
Frank also spent 55 years serving in the Coast Guard Auxillary. Frank is survived by his loving
wife, Shirley Gilliss, of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Norris Franklin
Gilliss, Jr., who passed in March 2014. He also is survived by his son Michael Gilliss and his wife
Lori Gilliss and his daughter in law Linda Smith Gilliss Fenerty & Terry Fenerty. He had 6
grandchildren, Michael Gilliss II & Heather Gilliss, Matthew Gilliss, Madison Gilliss, Ric
Thornton & Billie Jo Timmons Reynolds, Jamie & Carly Thornton and Dana & Andrew Medford.
He also had 8 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life held in Salisbury, MD at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle at 337
Tilghman Rd, Salisbury, MD 21804 on November 4th, 2023. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. and the
Celebration of Life will be at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of
Frank to Calvary Baptist Tabernacle.
Frank's family extends their gratitude for all that have reached out in thoughts and prayers.
