In Loving Memory of Valory Alexia Karas (Orth)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Valory Karas who departed this world on February 19, 2025 at the age of 79. Valory was a beloved stepmother to Donna Potolsky and Nancy Denaro, she left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Born on November 11, 1945, in Bayside New York, Valory Alexia Orth Karas was the only child of Fred Orth and Liliane V. Katayama. From an early age, she displayed a remarkable kindness, which would later become a defining feature of her life. Following the death of her father Valory was later adopted By Col. Douglas Barnes, her mother's second husband.

Valory attended Radford College in Virginia. After graduating in 1973, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a Kindergarten teacher. She has lived in New York, Japan, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida.

In 2008, Valory Orth Karas married John Peet, and together they built a life filled with love and happiness. They enjoyed travel, cooking and sailing.

Valory is survived by Donna Peet Potolsky and Nancy Peet Denaro as well as numerous friends and extended family. Their loss is deeply felt by all who knew her and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

A private celebration of life will be held for family members.

Though Valory is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of humor and kindness, and her memory will continue to uplift us. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and breathing freely, watching over us with love and grace.

Rest in peace, dear Valory. You will be forever missed.
